A day at Winkel 43: from breakfast to dinner

Winkel 43 and apple pie, the combination is almost inseparable. And yet that is only part of the story. Because anyone who spends an entire day with us discovers that Winkel 43 is much more than that single famous piece of cake. It is a place where the day has a natural rhythm, from the first coffee to the last bite.

Morning: a quiet start (08:00 AM–03:00 PM)

On Mondays and Saturdays, the door opens as early as 07:00 AM because of the market. On other days, you can visit from 08:00 AM, the quietest time of the day. The breakfast menu is simple and honest: a yogurt bowl with strawberries, a croissant with cheese or ham, fried eggs, or a sandwich of your choice with young or matured cheese, ham, salami, or smoked beef sausage from Louman. No fuss, just delicious.

Our coffee corner was recently upgraded with a new espresso machine, so there is reason to arrive early for that too. On Saturdays, you can easily combine breakfast with a stroll around the organic farmers' market on the square, then just grab a spot on the terrace.

Afternoon: lunch from 12:00 PM to 04:00 PM

The lunch menu changes monthly, but dishes like potato leek soup with croutons, a club sandwich, a beef sausage sandwich with Amsterdam onion and mustard, or fried eggs on bread are permanent fixtures. Simple, flavorful, and affordable, just as it should be.

And then, of course, there is the apple pie. Baked fresh daily, with a thick crispy crust, soft spiced apples, and whipped cream. Perfect as a lunch in itself, or as a conclusion to a meal. What many people do not know: the pie is partly baked by people working with us in the kitchen through Cordaan, with craftsmanship and pleasure. You can taste it.

The terrace on the Noordermarkt and the Westerstraat is one of the finest places in the Jordaan on sunny days. Located on two sides of the building, so there is always a corner in the sun.

Afternoon to evening: drinks from 04:00 PM

From 04:00 PM, Winkel 43 switches to the drinks and snacks menu. Bitterballen, classic or vegan, spring rolls, cheese rolls, beef sausage, nuts from Gotje, or a cheese board from Kef. Accompanied by a beer, a glass of wine, or just a coffee. This is the moment when the market bustle has faded and you can just sit back.

Thanks to the expansion into the adjacent building, there is now also more space to just walk in during busy times. Not just as a final destination, but also as a stopover.

Evening: dinner with a daily fresh menu

What many people do not know: you can also dine at Winkel 43. The dinner menu changes daily and consists of Dutch classics, honest dishes for a price that does not disappoint. No white tablecloths, but an evening out at a café where you immediately feel at home.

Reservations are not possible, so being on time pays off. But once you are there, you are set.

More than a destination

A day at Winkel 43 is simply a day in the Jordaan. The apple pie is always there, freshly baked, with whipped cream, just as it should be. But whether you come for breakfast, lunch, drinks, or dinner: you are welcome. All day long, without a reservation, without hassle. Just walk in.
